Downtown Brighton lights up for the holidays on Saturday, Nov. 21, the weekend before Thanksgiving. That date starts a short, busy stretch. Brighton Ladies Night falls 12 days later, on Thursday, Dec. 3, and Mt. Brighton's ticket calendar opens on Saturday, Dec. 5. Those dates fit into 15 days, and Thanksgiving falls in the middle of them.
If you live here, it helps to treat that stretch as one season. The restaurants that opened around town this year are where you'll eat on those nights.
The Lighting Comes First
The Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce has set Holiday Glow & Christmas Market on Main Street for Saturday, Nov. 21, 2026, from 1 to 7 p.m. WHMI 93.5 reported that the day will include holiday vendors, live performances on the Holiday Glow stage, live reindeer, choo choo train rides, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, who will lead community leaders in lighting up the city.
Cooper & Binkley Jewelers is the presenting sponsor. Jennifer Bond, the Chamber's director of events and sponsorship, told WHMI that sponsor money pays for extras like "shuttles and ramps to our Holiday Glow stage, and all the fun things a festival needs." She also said the event depends on the city's work: "Partnering with the City of Brighton, and all the work they do to make it magical, lit up Amp and all the downtown trees, really bringing the holiday spirit to downtown Brighton."
That quote explains why the date matters. When Santa and community leaders light up the city on Nov. 21, the AMP and the downtown trees light up too. Downtown takes on its holiday look before many families have even planned Thanksgiving dinner. Every holiday errand, dinner out, or evening walk on Main Street after that happens under those lights.
If you own a downtown business and want your name on the event, WHMI reported that sponsors at $500 or more get their logo on the main banner on the side of the CoBACH building. A $100 sponsorship puts your business on the large sign near the Holiday Glow stage. Bond can be reached at [email protected] or (810) 227-5086.
Fifteen Days, Three Anchors
Here's the season on one page, with the parade earlier in November as a lead-in. Times come from the City of Brighton's 2026 event list and the organizers' own listings.
| Date | Event | Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sat., Nov. 7 | Veterans Day Parade | 11 a.m. to noon | On the city's 2026 civic event list |
| Sat., Nov. 21 | Holiday Glow & Christmas Market | 1 to 7 p.m. | City lighting, vendors, reindeer, train rides, Santa |
| Thu., Nov. 26 | Thanksgiving | Falls between the lighting and Ladies Night | |
| Thu., Dec. 3 | Brighton Ladies Night | Starts 5 p.m. | Shopping, dining, discounts, giveaways |
| Sat., Dec. 5 | Earliest bookable day at Mt. Brighton | Weather dependent | Not an announced opening date |
When this post goes up on Oct. 29, Holiday Glow is a little over three weeks away. The time between the lighting and the first possible ski day is two weeks. If you're planning visits from family, holiday gatherings, or a weekend away, those 15 days are when downtown is busiest and most fully decorated.
Ladies Night Is The Shopping Night
Holiday Glow is the family event. Ladies Night on Dec. 3 is the night to shop. Believe In Brighton lists it for Thursday, Dec. 3, 2026, starting at 5 p.m., with shopping, dining, cocktails, discounts, and giveaways. The city's event list includes the same evening.
Ladies Night lands on the Thursday after Thanksgiving weekend, so it's the first downtown shopping evening after the holiday. By then the trees have been lit for almost two weeks. The listing promises discounts and giveaways, and Main Street will already be decorated.
If you're hosting this season, Canopy Lounge at 206 E. St. Paul is booking private holiday parties with a special holiday menu. Believe In Brighton lists that offer from Oct. 14, 2026, through Jan. 31, 2027, and it covers both small and large groups. Reservations are at 810-206-3765. The booking window runs well past the 15 busiest days, which helps if you're planning an office or family party for early January.
The Mountain Sets The Far End
On Mt. Brighton's lift ticket page, the earliest day you can book in the "First Day On The Slopes" calendar is Saturday, Dec. 5, 2026. That's the first day you can buy a ticket for. It isn't an announced opening. When Vail Resorts announced its 2026/27 opening dates on Aug. 18, Mt. Brighton wasn't on the list. The company said more resort dates would come in the following months and that all dates depend on weather and conditions.
Last season is the best guide. Mt. Brighton's own event listing shows opening day on Dec. 6, 2025, with lifts running at 9 a.m. This year's first bookable day is one day earlier on the calendar and two days after Ladies Night. The actual opening depends on the weather and on Vail's announcement.
The ticket page also says the resort limits lift tickets each day and that popular days will sell out. If you want to ski early in December, book once you know your plans rather than waiting until the morning you want to go.
Where The New Tables Are
Several restaurants opened in or near downtown this year, so you have more options for a meal before or after the evening events than you did last December.
Maru Sushi + Bar, 8262 Cross St.
Livingston Daily reported that Maru opened its Brighton location in the spring and held its grand opening on Sept. 17. The restaurant is owned by Robert Song, who started Maru in 2009. It's an easy dinner choice for a Holiday Glow evening or Ladies Night, and on Dec. 3 you'll be competing with a downtown crowd, so plan ahead.
Fork & Spoon Brunch House, 101 Brookside Lane
Fork & Spoon took over the former Lil' Chef space. Livingston Daily covered its plans in April, when the owner expected to open within weeks. The restaurant's own site now lists the Brighton address, daily hours, and online ordering. Holiday Glow doesn't start until 1 p.m. on Nov. 21, so a late brunch fits well before it, and so does breakfast on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Two more announced for Main Street and Grand River
MK Cannelle's timeline says founder Matt Knio broke ground on a Brighton location in 2026. The pastry shop's online ordering page lists it at 116 W. Grand River Ave. In August, Livingston Daily announced Oregano Deli and Specialty Market, a carryout-only sandwich shop and specialty market going into the former Diamond Factory at 132 W. Main St., with a ribbon cutting planned for Sept. 24. Check each shop's hours before you go. A pastry counter and a deli that sells specialty products both fit with holiday hosting and Ladies Night shopping.
Putting Holiday Glow Saturday Together
Using the times above, Nov. 21 could look like this:
- Late brunch at Fork & Spoon Brunch House on Brookside Lane.
- Head to Main Street when Holiday Glow opens at 1 p.m. for the vendors, reindeer, and train rides.
- Stay for the lighting of the city with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
- Dinner at Maru Sushi + Bar on Cross Street after the market closes at 7 p.m.
Repeat the evening part on Dec. 3, then check Mt. Brighton's calendar for the weekend after.
If you're thinking about selling your Brighton home in the coming months, the lit-up stretch from Nov. 21 into early December is when downtown looks its best, and that's worth knowing when you plan your timing. Heidi Smith is happy to talk through it with you over coffee or after a walk down Main Street. Schedule a free consultation.
